Japanese Yoga balances Yin & Yang, Strength & Flexibility. The style of yoga follows the principals of Traditional Chinese Medicine working with your Meridians (energy lines) through yoga poses to activate them, similar to an acupuncture or shiatsu treatment.
There is a focus on bringing energy back into your Hara (core) for a strong body and calm mind. It is a mostly floor based practice with an emphasis on focusing inwards, so you can spend time laying down with your eyes closed, ahhh bliss!
All classes will have a specific focus depending on time of day and the season and injuries/ailments you may need to heal. There are significant benefits of practicing Japanese Yoga. Through specific movements and learning to breathe deeper, it leads to decreased stress & anxiety, increased concentration & motivation, decreased back & shoulder pain, improved core strength, improved digestion, improved reproductive health, detoxification of your body, increased energy levels, improved ability to manage emotions, improving your overall health and wellbeing and a clearer state of mind.
Yin is complementary to Yang. It is the perfect style of yoga to balance Yang activity (sport, weight training, etc.) and Yang life (stress, over worked, hectic lifestyle and lack of sleep).
In a Yin practice to keep safe we come in slowly to poses and work with each individuals natural range of motion. Poses are held for long enough to read the bodies signals usually anywhere between 3-10mins and then released slowly.
It’s a slower, deeper and gentler style where you get to sink in, release, and feel the flow and flush of new blood, nutrients and energy into locked & blocked areas. Yin poses work deeply into bones, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, fascia and meridians.
Yin yoga is beneficial in so many ways. Physically to have more ease of comfort when sitting still and have increased grace & fluidity in movement. Energetically for increased vitality and harmony. Emotionally to have acceptance of emotions and feelings. Mentally for clarity and radiance of mind and developing personal insight.
Mindfulness is about bringing yourself to start living life with a mind full of nowness and newness. Which results in knowing your mind, shaping your mind and freeing your mind. The practice involves focusing the mind into the present moment whilst relaxing the habit of commenting or judging and accepting your feelings, thoughts and body sensations.
There are endless benefits to mindfulness practice and meditation, the most notable are; reduce anxiety, decrease risk of depression, boost attention span and focus, decrease levels of the stress hormone cortisol, help the brain to have better control over processing pain and emotions, increase body awareness and self-awareness. This will all lead to a happier & healthier life.
Kids Yoga (4-7yr olds & 8-12yr olds)
Kids yoga is so much more than just songs, games and animal poses. We will teach your kids about their bodies and minds. They’ll learn about how their systems and organs function, how to strength & lengthen their muscles, tools to breathe deeply and rest completely, and how to calm down in times of stress, fear and anxiety. They will then have this knowledge for life, the tools from their yoga practice can be used daily.
Yoga practice in kids has been seen to boost confidence and self-esteem, and helps kids to understand their emotions and feelings and how to be ok with them. As well as compliment all their sports and activities by boosting energy, increasing strength and flexibility.
